Ms. Thu Thuy – a travel blogger, shares her experiences
“I intended not to write but I feel very annoyed, so I decided to write for everyone.
When the traffic system grows, people are more likely to visit more famous tourist areas. Dalat and Sapa are the two areas that I see changing the most and the fastest, but in a bad tendency.
The weather of Dalat doesn’t like before…. Maybe due to the increasing temperature of the climate change, there is no cold feeling and water vapor from mouth. The sellers do not have the gentleness and politeness as in the past…
Among 10 sales people, 8 people show offensive attitude to the customers: The crab soup seller is ready to scare a Chinese client away from sitting because he will sit for a long time, no more seats for other customer, but she created a bad images of Vietnamese in foreigner’s eyes.
I asked to buy a long pant for my daughter, the seller told a price of VND 225,000 while in Hanoi I bought VND 70,000; and I went to 10 shops with 10 different prices which are 3 times higher price. Went further than, there was a guy – sidewalks seller, he sold the same long pant with price of VND 100,000, which was even better than the VND 225 long pant that the first seller offered me. In addition, some sellers forced me to buy their product.

The scene of Dalat market at night
Along the stairs down to the market are snacks, only 4 grilled crab’s pincers and 20 quail eggs the seller took me VND 140,000. I was a bit shocked but just felt like unlucky.
Many eatery invite tourist in a loud voice, they said loudly sell according to the price list, but I saw a guest arguing with the owner because of the frustration when the normal rice plate was charged VND 70,000.
Looking at miserable women selling soy milk, I did not ask the price before buying a soy milk bag. She said VND 10 and uncomfortably put the milk into the plastic bag for me, the smell of plastic bags scooping up my nose made me want to throw away the bag. Not to mention everyone sold VND 6,000 and I gave VND 20,000 to the seller, she gave me the pence of VND 2,000 and VND 5,000. It was not a big amount but it showed a deceitful cause discomfort to visitors. And in this case, I affirmed the owner’s deliberate deception.
Dalat night market is very dirty
The whole night market was filthy and littered with garbage. The smell of garbage scares tourists. 100% of products here were made in China and secondary products from China. Strawberries are not as in the past, they are not flavorful, 100% dried fruit from China. I heard that only sweet potatoes are from Dalat.
Disappointed … I trudge back to the hotel. Wondering if I was too fastidious or everyone felt like me, maybe I get used to Dalat so it was no longer attractive with me. Probably not!!!
Among those bad individuals, I meet a friendly girl who sells grilled food, price is cheap, and a grilled bird is VND 25,000. Another woman sold mixed rice paper with the price 15,000 VND… But I myself think of the phenomenon of rampant dirty food now, cannot sure what I am eating is clean.
I used to joke with my brothers: Sapa, now is like Sam Son and Dalat is like Cua Lo. But, maybe they are all like Sam Son.
Festival is upcoming, but the landscape like that, people like that, how to know there will be a festival as they are advertising!!!!! Not to mention the increase in the price of the hotel room two or three times”
